Welcome to Founders Day 2010
This year, Founders Day is celebrating Auburn as the “The Birthplace of Talking Movies”. The City of Auburn is credited as the “birthplace” of talking movies primarily due to the efforts of scientist and entrepreneur Theodore W. Case. His work changed the film industry and led to the creation of the Fox-Case Corporation, Movietone News, and Fox Films, which would become 20th Century Fox.
Today, Case’s work is preserved at the Case Research Lab, located at the Cayuga Museum, 203 Genesee Street. Case founded the backyard lab in his family’s greenhouse in 1916 and developed and recorded the first sound films using an optical track. Throughout the day the festivities will include a parade through downtown, opportunities to purchase fine art and craft products from regional artists and artisans, and sample a wide variety of food offerings, and a wide variety of entertainment options. There will be fun for the kids as well, including games, balloon art, magic, and characters from some of their favorite movies.
