The Assessor's Office, under supervision of the Assessor, is responsible for the valuation of all properties within the city.  Currently there are 9,195 parcels. All exemptions such as Veterans, Commercial 485-b, Senior Citizen, Non-Profit and the STAR exemption are administered through this office.  The management of City-owned property is also a function of this office.

The Assessors Office does not make the laws which affect property owners.  The assessment guidelines are set by the New York State Office of Real Property.  The tax rates are set by the City Council, the School Board and the County Legislature.  The Assessor does not determine taxes.  The Assessor determines the property values.
